House Salon Dinner Series: Behind the Mic with Jully Black at The Anndore House
Prepare for a night of culinary excellence and an unforgettable dining adventure at The Anndore House. Adding to the excitement, on May 1st, Canada’s celebrated Queen of R&B and Juno award-winning artist Jully Black will grace the modern and renowned hotel for a captivating four-course dining event. At Constantine, the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Jully Black will guide guests through the world of music complemented by the exquisite culinary creations of acclaimed chef, Adam Lafleur.
Jully Black tells The Wedding Planner & Lifestyle Magazine how she had to learn to navigate the business on her own, a journey that lasted an entire 13 years. “A pivotal moment in my career was when I had a manager walk off the job suddenly when it got too hard to deal with the struggles black artists had to face in Canada as it pertains to equality and equity,” Black says. “What it taught me is that it’s important for me to continue to have relationships that are built on Who I am versus what I do. Some of those very relationships are what helped me rebuild my career almost from the ground up,” she adds. “It also taught me that it is important to have financial literacy in any business and especially in the music business if you plan on having an illustrious career where you are able to not only lead, but also teach and succeed.”
The Anndore House, in collaboration with Constantine Restaurant, is thrilled to host the third edition of the House Salon dinner series, “Behind the Mic with Jully Black,” offering a cozy and engaging deep dive into Jully’s distinguished career and her valuable insights from the music industry. In addition to the anticipated sumptuous fare, the celebration persists with an after-party headlined by The Anndore House’s own DJ Daria Romanova.
The Anndore House, more than just an establishment, is well-known for its storied past as The Anndore Hotel & Apartments—a ten-story brick edifice famed for welcoming Toronto’s vibrant celebrities. Located at 15 Charles Street East, this unique venue provides a variety of services, including versatile spaces for events and business gatherings. Constantine showcases the diverse culinary traditions of the Mediterranean, offering guests the chance to indulge in happy hour specials, an extensive wine selection, and a menu featuring dishes like Chicken Liver Mousse, Burrata, and Beet & Citrus for lunch, as well as Harissa Chicken Wings and Salmon Crudo for dinner.
Adam Lafleur, who is also a Chef de Cuisine at Constantine, tells us about Constantine’s culinary philosophy. “We wholly embrace the traditions of Mediterranean cooking – sourcing local and seasonable produce and presenting it in an innovative yet simple manner. We believe in the power of simplicity, letting quality ingredients shine through in every dish.”
“Food is intrinsically linked with memories and the joy of bringing people together,” Lafleur tells The Wedding Planner & Lifestyle Magazine. “The idea that food is best when shared with friends and family is the philosophy which drives the creation of our Chef’s Menu – a curated experience designed to spark conversation and unforgettable memories, perfect for events like Behind the Mic. In essence, Constantine isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of food, culture, and community.”
The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by the four-course dinner at 7:30 p.m., and concludes with the after-party starting at 9:30 p.m. “Behind the Mic with Jully Black” is priced at $89 plus tax, and the after-party admission is $29 plus tax.
